Panel – Material Matters: Seeking glTF/USD Interoperability with Procedural Textures, MaterialX, and OpenPBR
When and Where: June 11, 4:30 – 5:25pm in Room 101A
Description: As 3D content pipelines expand to serve diverse applications in AR, VR, gaming, and the industrial metaverse, material definitions have become a critical focus for achieving asset interoperability, to make content once and use it everywhere. This panel, featuring members of the Khronos Group and the Metaverse Standards Forum, explores the evolving role of materials in bridging formats like glTF and USD. Experts will discuss the adoption and integration of technologies like MaterialX and OpenPBR to ensure consistent visual fidelity and streamlined workflows across tools and platforms. Attendees will gain insights into the challenges of standardizing material properties, the collaborative efforts underway to address them, and the roadmap for enabling a unified material ecosystem.

AI X Metaverse: Advancing Spatial Intelligence, Spatial Computing, and Beyond in Synergy
When and Where: June 12, 11:45 – 12:15pm in Builders Nexus Stage – Expo Hall
Description: As AI and metaverse increasingly converge, spatial intelligence (the ability for AI to perceive, reason about, and navigate 3D space) and spatial computing (platforms that blend real and digital environments) have emerged as foundational pillars. In this session, we’ll explore how spatial AI techniques—such as 3D reconstruction, scene understanding, and SLAM—enable more realistic, responsive virtual worlds. At the same time, immersive metaverse platforms provide rich, scalable environments for training and validating AI models in context. By highlighting key technologies—ranging from real-time 3D mapping to neural rendering and contextual AI agents—we’ll show how these domains co-evolve. Join us to discover best practices for fostering this cross-disciplinary synergy and accelerating the next wave of spatially intelligent, fully immersive experiences.
Speakers: Avi Bar-Zeev, XR Guild; Yu Yuan, MASA; Amy LaMeyer, WXR Fund; Neil Trevett, Metaverse Standards Forum
