Defining the metaverse as a cultural entity using AI

March 21, 2024 @ 5:00 - 6:00 PDT

The Metaverse is usually described as a combination of internet, gaming platforms, digital twins and augmented/virtual reality. But these are just technologies. The metaverse will come into its own when it has multiple ‘cultures’, the same as every other country on the planet.

But what cultural settings do we want the metaverse to have? How can we optimise the conditions of this newly forming territory to be nurturing and supporting, rather than demeaning and destructive. Many existing media platforms have toxic cultures especially for women and young people.

Dr Jessica Symons, Director of Visioning Lab runs R&D (research and development) projects focused on emerging concepts and technologies, invites interested parties to come to this open forum session to discuss the development of metaverse cultures and strategies for shaping them.

This session will focus on how artificial intelligence (AI) can interrogate existing research on societies and culture to provide structure to the data-driven systems that underpin metaverse solutions.

The discussion will include how you can participate in projects and funding opportunities that explore the ideas developed.
