State of 3D Asset Interoperability using USD and glTF

Description: Gaussian splats are a rapidly emerging method for the fast and efficient creation of photorealistic 3D visualizations, and is particularly suitable for real-time applications. Today, a growing number of software solutions support the capture, visualization, editing, and compression of Gaussian splats. However, as different companies adopt varying formats, the risk of ecosystem fragmentation becomes a possibility. In this 90-minute Frontier Workshop, we will discuss the current technologies, formats, and use cases and investigate the potential for standardization to enable interoperability and sustainable growth.

This Birds of a Feather will provide updates on alignment of PBR materials, physics extensions, roundtripping between glTF and USD, interactivity, animation, FBX, and new geometric representations.
