TPAC 2026

October 30 @ 8:30 - 9:30 GMT
Join us for a joint session at W3C's TPAC

TPAC is W3C’s major event of the year and gathers their community for thought-provoking discussions and coordinated work to advance the invaluable work of their groups.

Unleashing a Spatial Web: Mapping W3C Standards to Support a Web of Worlds

This session brings W3C’s web standards community together with MSF’s Web of Worlds initiative to explore how existing standards can be composed into an interoperable web of linked spatial experiences, much as URLs and HTML link today’s web. Building on technologies the web already offers, such as WebXR, WebGPU, and WebAssembly, the discussion is organized around three Web of Worlds concepts: Open Spatial Worlds, Open Spatial Assets, and Open User Manifests. Participants will walk through the Web of Worlds overview, examine gaps in linking and addressing, spatial composition, and portable identity and user data, test the ideas against real use cases, and consider where the work belongs within W3C. The goal is an initial mapping of W3C standards to the Web of Worlds, a clearer connection between spatial web requirements and the relevant W3C groups, and a shared view of the remaining gaps and next steps.
